At ArtFactory.com we specialize in making one-of-a-kind, custom, fine are quality entrance doors that are built to stand the test of time. This custom craftsman stained glass door takes its design inspiration directly from The Gamble House, which is perhaps Greene and Greene's most well known craftsman bungalow from the early Twentieth-Century. Like all of our custom doors, it is built from solid, full length, hand hewn planks of old growth timber, and this design incorporates the use of genuine hand cut stained glass, which as an extremely popular element that was used throughout not only The Gamble House, but craftsman architecture in general. This intricate, handmade entrance is a prime example of what our craftsman can accomplish when you are looking to create something that is truly special. Inspired by the American Arts and Crafts movement, the design pays homage to the doors found on Greene and Green's famous Pasdena, California bungalows, such as The Gamble House. Just like the California bungalows, our craftsman doors utilize design elements inspired by nature, and are built with all natural materials. This breathtaking custom entrance door features a scene of a pair of oak trees beneath a multi-colored, Western sunset sky, all in a fluid stained glass design that extends throughout the door glass, transom windows. This type of fluid design, including the door blade, and transom window, makes the difference between fine art, and ordinary, mass production entrance doors. To top it all off, it is built using the same techniques and materials that were used to build the great craftsman doors of over century ago. Artistic elements from nature, were a trademark of craftsman design, and essential to the styles that were made popular during this period of history. The entrance features a large, unique, transom window at the top, which features a wood planked design that is inspired by the famous Greene and Greene Gamble House Door. In other words, the transom is built using the same design that is seen at the top of the door blade on the original Gamble House door, making it an incredibly unique way of keeping the original design, but adding the extra element of the transom. This is all built into the solid wood, pre-hung, structural door jamb. As is the case with all of our doors that incorporate the use of glass, the door glass, and transom are custom engineered to let just the right amount of light into the room. We also have dozens of glass styles to choose from, including a wide variety of glass choices. In addition to the genuine hand cut stain glass seen here, you can choose from our selection clear, decorative and textured glass patterns. As pictured, the custom craftsman stained glass door has been built as single door with a flat top, but like all of our custom door and gate designs, it can also be built with a full or semi arched top. Furthermore, any of our designs can be built as double doors, for interior or exterior, and residential or commercial use.

We believe in building furniture and doors that are not something that you just use for a few years and then throw away. Building items that are disposable is a practice that is unique to the past fifty years. In the old world, when a piece of furniture was built, it was built from solid, natural materials by master craftsmen. Most importantly, it was built to last forever. Something like a solid wood entrance door would be passed down through a family for generations along with the home that was also built to last forever. With this custom craftsman stained glass door, handcrafted from solid, full length timber, we have carried that tradition of built to last craftsmanship into the 21st century. This type of product cannot be build overnight, or with low quality materials. That is why we use the highest quality, genuine solid wood, and built it by hand, using the age old, tried and tested method of mortise and tenon joineryIt is our belief that when you buy a solid wood door from ArtFactory.com, that is will be the last door you ever have to buy for that entrance.

History Of Arboreal Elements In Craftsman Doors

Craftsman doors, also known as Arts and Crafts doors, are known for their distinctive style and craftsmanship. While arboreal elements, such as wood and tree motifs, are commonly found in Craftsman doors, it's important to note that the incorporation of these elements can vary depending on the specific design and the preferences of the craftsmen.

The arboreal elements in Craftsman doors reflect the movement's celebration of nature and traditional craftsmanship. Wood, carvings, inlays, and stained glass were all used to incorporate tree motifs and create a connection to the natural world. These elements continue to be cherished in Craftsman-style doors today, paying homage to the rich history and enduring appeal of the style.

Origins of Craftsman Style: The Craftsman style emerged in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as a reaction against the ornate and mass-produced designs of the Victorian era. It was championed by the Arts and Crafts movement, which emphasized traditional craftsmanship, simplicity, and the use of natural materials.

Use of Wood: Wood played a central role in Craftsman doors. The movement celebrated the natural beauty of wood and sought to showcase its qualities through simple yet elegant designs. Craftsman doors often feature rich, solid wood construction, with oak, mahogany, and fir being popular choices. The wood was often left unfinished or stained to enhance its natural grain.

Tree Motifs: Arboreal elements, particularly tree motifs, were commonly incorporated into Craftsman doors. The tree symbolized nature, strength, and the connection to the earth. These motifs were typically depicted through carving, inlays, or stained glass panels.

Carvings: Craftsman doors often featured intricate wood carvings depicting trees, branches, leaves, or vines. These carvings were typically done by skilled craftsmen and added a touch of artistry to the door's design. Carvings could be simple or elaborate, depending on the desired aesthetic.

Inlays: Another way arboreal elements were incorporated into Craftsman doors was through inlays. Inlays involved using different types of wood to create decorative patterns or scenes on the door's surface. Tree-related designs, such as intertwining branches or stylized leaves, were commonly used.

Stained Glass: Stained glass panels were also a popular feature in Craftsman doors. These panels often depicted natural scenes, including trees, forests, or landscapes. The stained glass allowed natural light to filter through while adding a touch of color and artistic expression.

Evolution and Modern Interpretations: Over time, the Craftsman style has evolved, and modern interpretations of Craftsman doors may deviate from the traditional designs. However, the emphasis on natural materials and arboreal elements continues to be a defining characteristic of Craftsman doors, with wood remaining a primary material.
