Entrance Door Inspired By A Norwegian Fortress
Bergenhus Fortress in Bergen, Norway was completed in 1261 by King Haakon IV Haakonsson. When King Haakon took the throne it was the beginning of what is considered to be the golden age of medieval Norway (1217 - 1319). He expanded Norway's holdings by bringing in the commonwealth of Iceland and the colony of Greenland. Bergenhus Fortress began as the royal residence but was transformed into a defensive fortification and today is an administrative base for the Royal Norwegian Navy. Haakon's Hall still stands within the fortress and is the only structure from the original palace that remains. It was built as the King's receiving and banqueting hall and has been restored to show the beauty of 13th century architecture and is the largest secular medieval building in Norway.
This entrance door takes its inspiration from Haakon's Hall with the wrought iron grillwork and decorative clavos. These doors are also very secure, being 3" thick solid wood castle doors. Our master blacksmiths also hand forged the door pulls to complete these 13th century castle doors.
