This handcrafted custom entrance features a genuine, working ship's porthole that functions as a speakeasy window. At ArtFactory.com, one of our passions is turning genuine antique artifacts into works of world class fine art. Our doors are crafted from some of history's best designs, and this custom entrance door, built with planks of solid wood, is no exception. Although it is pictured as an interior door, this nautically inspired design can be built for exterior or interior, and residential or commercial use. Like all of our products, it is not made to be disposed of after time, but to be the last door that you will ever need to buy for that entrance. This type of product cannot be build overnight, or with low quality materials. That is why we use the highest quality, full length, solid timber, and build it by hand, using the age old, tried and tested method of mortise and tenon joinery. This type materials and construction makes for a product that will stand the test of time.
We believe in building furniture and doors that are not something that you just use for a few years and then throw away. Building items that are disposable is a practice that is unique to the past fifty years. In the old world, when a piece of furniture was built, it was built from solid, natural materials by master craftsmen. Most importantly, it was built to last forever. Something like a solid wood entrance door would be passed down through a family for generations along with the home that was also built to last forever. With this custom nautical portal door, handcrafted from solid cedar (as pictured), we have carried that tradition of built to last craftsmanship into the 21st century. A true modern masterpiece inspired by historic designs, and built with period correct methods and materials.
Available With Fully Customizable Blacksmith Hand Forged Hardware
All of our custom door hardware is made from solid hand forged wrought iron. This, custom nautical porthole door, or any of our doors can be customized with any hardware that you choose from our vast selection of styles. As pictured it features our popular nautical mooring custom door pull on the outside and classic ring door pull on the inside. When we say hand forged, we mean hand hammered over a coal fired forge by master blacksmiths. Specifically, our hardware products are never cast, drop forged, or made using any other type of fast process. Because our custom door handles and hardware products are never mass produced, each piece is a one-of-a-kind item that is uniquely yours. You can also add any of our theme door pulls from our extensive catalog to your gate. You can even submit your own picture or design idea and our design engineers and blacksmiths will custom craft it for you at no additional charge.
Our custom hardware products are all finished using our proprietary iron oxide advance patination process. This process infuses a hand applied patina to the metal at over 1000 degrees Fahrenheit. This makes for a vibrantly colored finish that will stand the test of time with little or no maintenance. Unlike paints and powder coats, a heat infused patina won't crack, peel, or flake off over time. The hardware on your gate can be finished in any color you choose, or even matched to a sample that you submit.

Custom Nautical Porthole Door Door Finish Details
The meticulous finish has been done in age old technique, using a 23-step hand rubbed process. We begin with fine hand sanding, and infused open grain hand applied stains. That puts the finish in the wood not just sprayed on it. This allows for the fine natural wood grains to show to perfection. There are then 20 additional steps requiring the application of wax, oils and lacquers with curing times between each process. This method is performed on all furniture and door wood surfaces inside and out. This tried and tested finish detail is required in the making of a one-of-a-kind, family heirloom quality product that meets world class investment quality standards that will stand the test of time. This process is the only way with little maintenance and the simple process of cleaning with oil will allow for a beautiful natural patina that will make this door more beautiful over time.
