Colonial Style Wood Door Historical Inspiration Culzean Castle
Culzean Castle in Maybole, Scotland is an example of the beautiful results of combining classic design with modern aesthetics. Finished in 1792, it was built around a structure that stood for 200 years before the castle was commissioned. The architect, Robert Adam, combined elements from Greek, Roman, and Gothic architecture to create an impressive residence complete with multi-pane windows, characteristic of colonial style.
Culzean Castle is also known for its "Eisenhower Room," which guests can stay in. In 1945, the Marquis requested that a room in the castle be made into an apartment and offered to General Dwight D. Eisenhower, for the duration of his lifetime, as a gift from the people of Scotland. It soon became his second residence and he and his family enjoyed trips there during his presidency and into retirement.
