Art Nouveau Entrance Door
The Art Nouveau style of architecture was popular in Paris in the late 19th century and the early 20th century. One of the premier architects of that time was Jules Lavirotte. He studied at the Ecole national superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, the most prestigious art school in France, and won multiple awards and fame with his buildings in the 7th arrondissement of Paris. One of the things he was known for was his elaborate ironwork that he included in his building façades. His building at 3 Square Rapp, where this door is taken from, has wrought iron balconies that are all original, none are repeated on the building. His intricate ironwork also extended to the doors of the buildings, creating grand entrances.
This door is a simplified version of the door at 3 Square Rapp, a version with a little less ironwork, but with all the grandeur of the original. The doors are still hand carved by our master carvers and the wrought iron is still hand forged by our master blacksmiths. All the care we put into elaborate works is still put into this simpler style.
