We styled the iron flourishes near the bottom of our door and around the speakeasy to reflect the artistic advancement of door hinges in the middle ages. Though strap hinges date back to primitive societies in Asia, Africa, and elsewhere, it wasn't until the beginning of the middle ages that their use evolved to a decorative art. As metal became more available and easier to produce, blacksmiths were given the freedom to create elaborate strap hinges, which proved both functional and artistic. The beautiful wrought iron hinges enhanced the look of massive cypress doors and brought character to a variety of buildings, from castles to cathedrals.
Mont Saint-Michel, finished in the 12th century, is perfect for our Arched Gothic Door with Decorative wrought Iron Accents.
