We specialize in building modern doors inspired by designs from history. World renowned artist H.J. Nick of ArtFactory.com has spent decades studying classic architecture in search of inspiration for his latest designs. Among his favorite styles are from the American Arts and Crafts movement. This craftsman front door features a unique, design that was inspired by the doors of Greene & Greene's famous The Gamble House in Pasadena, California.
When building historically inspired doors, H.J. Nick believes that using the same techniques and materials as the original is especially relevant. This exquisite entrance door is no exception. That is why our master builders construct all of our doors from solid, thick, naturally air cured, timber. Furthermore, all of our doors are hand hewn using the age old, tried and tested technique, of mortise and tenon joinery. This type of materials and construction ensure that your custom doors are not only historically correct, but are built to stand the test of time.
Customize Your Door's Glass Choices And Finish Colors
The Gamble House double doors are a true display of style, security, and elegance, all in the same package. The glass panels are are thick, dual pane glass, true divided light, and custom engineered to allow in just the right amount of light. You can customizes the look of your door by choosing from our dozens of different varieties clear, tinted or deco glass. We also offer a wide variety of glass textures. If you are so inclined, we have genuine hand cut stained glass, and even bullet resistant glass for those in need of maximum security.
The meticulous finish has been done in age old technique, using a 23-step hand rubbed process. We begin with fine hand sanding, and infused open grain hand applied stains. That puts the finish in the wood not just sprayed on it. This allows for the fine natural wood grains to show to perfection. There are then 20 additional steps requiring the application of wax, oils and lacquers with curing times between each process. This method is performed on all furniture and door wood surfaces inside and out. This tried and tested finish detail is required in the making of a one-of-a-kind, family heirloom quality product that meets world class investment quality standards that will stand the test of time. This process is the only way with little maintenance and the simple process of cleaning with oil will allow for a beautiful natural patina that will make this door more beautiful over time.

Building A Legacy Through Heirloom Quality Doors
Building a family legacy has been going on since the beginning of time. Building heirloom furniture and doors intended to last forever is one of the primary ways we all have in achieving some small part of immortality. These cherished family items will touch our loved ones for many years to come through physical interactions as well as family photos . Many societies, including the Egyptians and Mayans, as well as European royalty and aristocracy have created and passed down heirlooms for thousands of years. More recently, the great artists and architects of the American Arts and Crafts movement of the early 20th century created such heirlooms.
In fact, if it were not for these artifacts, it would be impossible to know these people ever existed, how they were important to history. This is also the case in the 21st century within your own family. No matter if it’s a simple, hope chest with your personal message or name as a gift to a loved one, or extravagant, fine art quality, master handcrafted, solid cedar, custom Gamble House double doors, these items will be important to the story of your family history long after we are gone. Gamble House Double Doors Historical Inspiration
Originally intended as a winter residence for David and Mary Gamble (and Jeremy Case), the three-story Gamble House is commonly described as America's Arts and Crafts masterpiece. Its style shows influence from traditional Japanese aesthetics and a certain California spaciousness born of available land and a permissive climate. The Arts and Crafts Movement in American Craftsman style architecture was focused on the use of natural materials, attention to detail, aesthetics, and craftsmanship. The house is located on a grassy knoll on a Pasadena Arroyo. Because of the Gambles attraction to the environment, Greene designed the house to compliment the rustic setting. The house's design reflected the Gambles' love of nature as flowers and trees were brought to the interior—creating pictures in wood, metal, art glass, and semi-precious stone. The building itself appears as if growing from the landscape, achieved by a blend of man-made and natural materials such as vines covering the house from the ground up.
