French Double Barn Doors: With Custom Matching Transom
At ArtFactory.com we believe in building furniture and doors that are not something that you just use for a few years and then throw away. Building items that are disposable is a practice that is unique to the past fifty years. In the old world, when a piece of furniture was built, it was built from solid, natural materials by master craftsmen. Most importantly, it was built to last forever. Something like a solid wood entrance door would be passed down through a family for generations along with the home that was also built to last forever. With these custom French double barn doors, handcrafted from solid, full length timber, we have carried that tradition of built to last craftsmanship into the 21st century. A true modern masterpiece inspired by both French and American Western design, and built with tried and tested, old world methods and materials.
This type of product cannot be build overnight, or with low quality materials. That is why we use the highest quality, genuine solid wood, and built it by hand, using the age old, tried and tested method of mortise and tenon joinery. This type materials and construction make for a product that will stand the test of time. The custom French double barn doors are a unique combination of a classic French door design, incorporated into a swinging style barn door, and including a Western inspired wooden crossbuck at the bottom of each door blade. Built using only age old tried and tested methods, and all natural, fine quality materials including solid old growth timber, thick tempered hand cut glass, and genuine wrought iron hardware. Furthermore, the genuine wood mullion frame creates the French style, 12 panel glass design on each door blade, and has been custom engineered to allow just the right amount of light into the room. We use only the highest quality, thick, tempered glass to create additional security and energy efficiency. This door is pictured with a double doors set, with a flat top and transom. However, like any of our designs, it can be built as single door, with a semi or full arched top, for interior or exterior, and for residential or commercial use. Furthermore, any of our custom door designs can be customized with or without options such as the transom, or sidelights and accent wood panels. Additionally, any of our custom solid wood door designs can be made into a gate, or garage door design. It is our belief that when you buy a solid wood door from ArtFactory.com, that is will be the last door you ever have to buy for that entrance.

Historical Significance Of Crossbuck Barn Doors
Crossbuck barn doors have a long history rooted in traditional barn design and construction. These distinctive doors are characterized by their diagonal crossbuck pattern, which consists of two or more slats crossing each other in an "X" shape. The term "crossbuck" refers to this crossed configuration. The origin of crossbuck doors can be traced back to the early days of agriculture and farming. In many rural areas, barns were essential structures used to house livestock, store crops and equipment, and provide shelter for various farming activities. Barn doors played a crucial role in allowing access to the barn while also providing security and protection from the elements.
The crossbuck design offered several advantages in barn construction. The diagonal bracing of the slats added strength and stability to the door, making it resistant to sagging or warping over time. This was particularly important in regions with harsh weather conditions, where barns had to withstand heavy winds and snow loads.
Furthermore, the crossbuck pattern also provided an aesthetic appeal to the barn doors. The X-shaped configuration created an interesting visual element that became a recognizable symbol of traditional barn architecture. The design often evoked a sense of nostalgia and rustic charm.
While the exact origins of crossbuck barn doors are challenging to pinpoint, they have been used in barn construction for centuries. The doors were typically constructed using wooden planks, which were cut and arranged in a cross pattern. The slats were fastened together using traditional joinery techniques such as mortise and tenon or dowel connections. With the advancement of technology and modern construction materials, the use of crossbuck doors has evolved. While traditional wooden doors are still prevalent in some areas, other materials such as steel or composite materials may also be used to create crossbuck-style doors. These materials offer enhanced durability, longevity, and maintenance benefits.
In addition to their historical and functional significance, crossbuck barn doors continue to be popular today due to their timeless appeal. They are often featured in barn-inspired architecture and are also adapted for use in other structures, such as residential homes or commercial buildings, where the design adds a touch of rustic elegance. Overall, crossbuck barn doors are a testament to the enduring legacy of traditional barn construction techniques and serve as a symbol of agricultural heritage and rural life.
