The Heidelberg Castle in Germany, known as one of the most elegant palaces of the Renaissance. Heidelberg was originally created in the 12th century and features buildings that mix Gothic and Renaissance style. Among the distinguishing characteristics of the architecture, are Heidelberg Castle's many arched doors, windows, and entryways. Throughout the castle you will fine many different styles of entrances, from wooden doors with gothic style strap hinges, to wrought iron exterior gates.

We wanted to capture the feel of Heidelberger Castle while also creating a modern castle grand entrance door that would make a statement. This customer also had a large entrance way with room for a custom transom and sidelights. In building this door we drew inspiration from the gothic style wooden entrance doors with strap hinges for the door. The inspiration for the fully surrounding transom and sidelight window panels was taken from one of the castle's breathtaking arched windows as seen in the accompanying image. As a result our castle grand entrance door is the perfect combination of modern style, with characteristics of Renaissance era German architecture.
