Description
Castle Entrance Door: Solid Wood Doors Handmade In Old World Craft
At ArtFactory.com we specialize in building custom entrance doors based on historic designs. This custom castle entrance door was inspired by the style of doors seen in English architecture from the 17th century. In ancient times, one of the biggest needs of a castle, was a strong defense system to protect the castle, and its city. Much like today, security began at the front door. This style of heavy, solid wood castle entrance door was built as one of the primary means of fortress protection. Our custom castle entrance door is is made from thick, of solid, naturally air cured timber. Furthermore, it is hand hewn with mortise and tenon construction to stand the test of time.
We not only build our doors for maximum strength and security, but also to fine art quality specifications. This includes details such as the stylish vertical planking on this castle entrance door. That is why every product from ArtFactory.com is built under the supervision of, and certified by renowned artist H.J. Nick. In fact, H.J. Nick will not sign a product until each detail is found to meet world class fine art standards. This includes our hand applied, multi-process wood finishes. Each item is finished by hand, using this time consuming, multi-step process that blends the stain into the grain of the wood. We offer hundreds of different stain colors and can also match to any sample.
Castle Entrance Door Customizable Hand Forged Hardware Details
The castle entrance door as pictured features medieval inspired custom door hardware. The handle is our popular twisted c-shaped door pull. The door also features 4 horizontal rows of wrought iron clavos. These decorative door nails are one of the easiest ways to add a bit of rustic, old world flair to your door. Like all of our custom door hardware, the fine art custom door handle, and wrought iron clavos are hand forged by our master blacksmiths. That means hand hammered over a coal fired forge. Our hardware is never cast, drop forged, or built using any type of fast process. Blacksmith hand forging produces a one-of-a-kind product that will stand the test of time.
This is also why we use wrought iron. Unlike other metals, wrought iron does not corrode with exposure to the elements. Wrought iron lasts for centuries, and builds a patina that will look better with age. Furthermore, all of our products are finished using our proprietary iron oxide advance patination process. This process infuses the hand applied patina to the metal at over 1000 degrees Fahrenheit. Our patina finishes won't crack, flake, or peel off like paints and powder coats. These are fine art quality finishes that require little or no maintenance.
17th Century English Architecture: Historical Inspiration For The Castle Entrance Door
H.J. Nick spends a great deal of time traveling the world, and especially Europe in search of inspirations for his designs. He believes that it is especially relevant to see history's great architecture up close and personal to get a true feel for how and why it was created. This allows for our products to be build using the same craft and all natural materials as were used in history, and to build our products to historically correct specifications. This castle entrance door design was inspired by English architecture from the 17th century. This photo from Surrey Cottage is an excellent example of the solid wood, vertical planked style.
There are many low quality reproductions out there today that may look like a door from history, but these doors are nothing but cheap disposable throw aways. Doors built with particle board, veneers, laminates, and other faux woods will never stand the test of time. Neither will glued together fast process doors. That is why we use the same methods and materials used to build this pictured 17th century English cottage doors that is still standing today. Our doors are of investment quality, with future appreciable value as fine art. We are so confident in the quality of our products and craftsmanship that we guarantee them forever.
