Description

Tiffany Dragonfly Lamp: Handmade Stained Glass Table Lamp

Tiffany dragonfly lampA Tiffany lamp is a type of lamp with a stained glass shade. The original lamps of this style were made by Louis Comfort Tiffany and his design studio in the early twentieth century. Among the most famous of these were the stained leaded glass dragonfly lamps. Tiffany lamps are considered to be an import part of the Art Nouveau movement. Due to Tiffany's dominant influence on the style, the term "Tiffany lamp" or is now often used to refer to any stained, leaded glass lamp, even those not made by Louis Comfort Tiffany's company.

At ArtFactory.com our Tiffany dragonfly lamp is an original fine art design by renowned artist H.J. Nick. Each detail has been finely crafted using the same crafts and materials as the originals. H.J. Nick is a firm believer that using original techniques, and materials is especially relevant when building a historically inspired piece. This includes hand cut, kiln fired stained glass, and a base that has been hand forged from solid wrought iron by classically trained blacksmiths. This means solid iron that has been hand hammered over a coal fired forge. Furthermore, it has been advanced patinated using our proprietary, iron oxide process that ensures you product will maintain its original beauty for years to come, all with little or no maintenance required.

Tiffany Lamps Historical Inspiration Info

The first Tiffany lamp was created around 1895. Each lamp was handmade by skilled craftsmen, and was not mass-produced or machine made. That is why we made this Tiffany dragonfly lamp from ArtFactory.com, the same way that it would been made by Tiffany's over a century ago. This allows for your product to stand on its own as an original work of art, unlike cheap fakes and machine mass reproductions.

Recent research has shown that the original designer of this style may not have been, Louis Comfort Tiffany as has been thought for over a century. Instead, a previously unrecognized artist named Clara Driscoll (who worked for Tiffany) was identified in 2007 by Rutgers professor Martin Eidelberg as being the master designer behind the most creative and valuable leaded glass lamps produced by Tiffany Studios. For more information, see the accompanying video from the Reading Public Museum.
