A Mantel to Display Your Most Valued Treasures and Photographs
Fireplace mantels have been around in one form or another since the 18th century. Mantels soon became synonymous with the high class. During this period, furniture evolved into a status symbol, and became a source of comfort and design within European homes. Besides providing heat during a time before electricity, the warm glow of a fire provided emotional and physical comfort and created a central gathering place for guests. During this tie when the fireplace was first popularized, Rococo, also know as late-baroque, was one of the predominant style or architecture in Europe. Our Rococo inspired, master hand carved fireplace mantle captures this style while also being built using the correct materials and techniques used in that era.
The middle of our fireplace mantel features an intricately carved seashell. Nature served as inspiration for Rococo style, so the seashell (designed from the ribbed shell of the mollusk) was an obvious choice due to its beautiful form and historical significance. Primitive civilizations once used shells as a form of currency and their designs can be found on drinking vessels and vases from early cultures in central and south america. Your french Rococo wood mantle is rich with design history and will create an inviting, intimate atmosphere where you can relax and enjoy the warm glow. Own an Heirloom You Can Pass Down for Many Generations to Come
Many societies throughout the ages have created and passed down heirlooms either for sacred rituals or to create an honored family tradition. The Egyptians, Mayans, and European aristocracy are amoung those who left behind valuable items for future generations. In fact, if it were not for their artifacts, we wouldn't know as much about previous civilizations and how they contributed to better humanity.
Creating an heirloom for your own family is a way to pass on your memory and touch your loved ones for many generations. No matter if it's a simple fine art, handmade, one-of-a-kind placard or hope chest with your personal message on it, or a major hand crafted and hand carved bed commemorating and expressing your love, an heirloom for your family is something they will cherish the rest of their lives.
Master Hand Carved Fireplace Mantel Historical Inspiration Details
Rococo (/rəˈkoʊkoʊ/ or /roʊkəˈkoʊ/), less commonly roccoco, or "Late Baroque", was an exuberantly decorative 18th-century European style which while serving as the final expression of the baroque movement is now considered to be a separate major period of art history from the Baroque, immediately succeeding the Baroque period. The Rococo style pushed to the extreme the principles of illusion and theatricality, an effect achieved by dense ornament, asymmetry, fluid curves, and the use of white and pastel colors combined with gilding, drawing the eye in all directions. The ornament dominated the architectural space.
The Rococo style of architecture and decoration began in France in the first part of the 18th century in the reign of Louis XV as a reaction against the more formal and geometric Style Louis XIV. It was known as the style rocaille, or rocaille style. It quickly spread to other parts of Europe, particularly Bavaria, Austria, the rest of Germany and Russia. It also came to influence the other arts, particularly painting, sculpture, literature, music, and theatre.
