All of our hardware products are custom made by master blacksmiths, right in our Scottsdale, Arizona factory. Each item is made from pure, solid wrought iron, and is hand hammered over a coal fired forge. We use pure wrought iron, because unlike other metals, wrought iron will not rust away and corrode with exposure to the elements. Wrought iron will stand up for centuries, build a patina, and only look better with age. To top it all off, at ArtFactory.com we expedite this natural process with our hand applied, iron oxide, advance patination process. The process infuses the patina to the metal at over 1000 degrees Fahrenheit, and creates a finish that will look beautiful from day one, and for generations to come with little or no maintenance.

Master Hand Carving And Wood Finish Additional Details

Our master carvers painstakingly carve each design by hand with intricate details such as individually carved, uniquely shaped hairs on the lion's mane. These details make the difference between world class fine art, and mass production products.

The lion head carved front door, like all of our custom wood doors, is made from solid, full length timber. Furthermore, each door is constructed with hand hewn, mortise and tenon joinery. The meticulous finish has been done in age old technique, using a 23-step hand rubbed process. We begin with fine hand sanding, and infused open grain hand applied stains. That puts the finish in the wood not just sprayed on it. This allows for the fine natural wood grains to show to perfection. There are then 20 additional steps requiring the application of wax, oils and lacquers with curing times between each process. This method is performed on all furniture and door wood surfaces inside and out.

In addition, our high relief hand carving process creates both positive and negative levels. This includes features such as carved out undersides of leaves that cannot be achieved with any machine. When we say master hand carved, we mean carved by the hands of one master wood carver. We do not use CNC machine carving, engage in gang carving, or any other fast process. Direct carvings by the hands of one master carver is especially relevant in the eyes of appraisers when judging a piece as meeting fine art qualifications.
