The Heroic Elk Estate Gate
The Heroic Elk Gate, designed by Master Builder H.J. Nick, Founder & CEO of ArtFactory.com, brings together monumental bronze sculpture and fine art forged iron architecture in a single extraordinary work.
Created in collaboration with Master Sculptor Lorenzo Ghiglieri and Mark Russo of the Michelangelo Foundry, the gate transforms the celebrated Heroic Elk sculpture into the centerpiece of a grand architectural entrance.

Description
A Monumental Collaboration in Bronze and Forged Iron
The result is a monumental gate worthy of great estates, ranches, mountain lodges, and castle-like properties of distinction.
Experience the Call of the Wild — Frozen in Bronze
In the high mountain passes and untamed wilderness of North America, the elk has always stood as a symbol of quiet authority — powerful, vigilant, and unwavering.
- It does not rush.
- It does not retreat.
- It stands its ground.
This is the spirit captured in Heroic Elk, a masterwork by world-renowned sculptor Lorenzo Ghiglieri.
Sculpted with extraordinary realism and emotional depth, the work is more than a representation of wildlife — it is a portrait of strength, resilience, and dignity. Every line of the sculpture reflects Ghiglieri’s lifelong dedication to honoring nature’s noblest forms.
The elk stands calm yet commanding, as if guarding the land it has ruled for centuries.
A Sculptural Legacy
Works by Lorenzo Ghiglieri have been collected by heads of state, museums, and private institutions around the world, including collections associated with:
- The White House
- The Vatican
- The Kremlin
- Royal collections across Europe
Through the work of Mark Russo and the Michelangelo Foundry, this tradition of monumental bronze sculpture continues today.
One example is the American Patriot sculpture, presented through this artistic lineage and now displayed in the Oval Office of the White House.
As Mark Russo has said:
“When Lorenzo sculpted the Heroic Elk, he was capturing more than anatomy — he was expressing the very spirit of the American West. This piece is freedom frozen in bronze.”
When Sculpture Meets Architecture
The Heroic Elk Gate was designed by Master Builder, H.J. Nick to transform the powerful bronze sculpture into a monumental architectural entrance.
Nick’s design merges the strength of Ghiglieri’s bronze sculpture with the tradition of ArtFactory’s fine art blacksmithing, creating a unified composition where bronze and forged iron become one.
At the center of the gate stands the Heroic Elk, cast in bronze through the Michelangelo Foundry. When the gate is closed, the elk appears as a single commanding figure. When the gate opens, the sculpture separates gracefully along the center seam, revealing the entrance beyond.
The sweeping antlers rise into the crown of the forged iron gate, tying sculpture and architecture together into one dramatic work of art.
Monumental Estate Gate Design
The Heroic Elk Gate, designed by H.J. Nick, is conceived as a grand architectural entrance that can be built in virtually any height or width to suit estates, ranches, lodges, or private properties.
Each gate is handcrafted by the master blacksmiths of ArtFactory.com using traditional forging techniques passed down through generations.
Every element is: heated in the forge, shaped by hammer and anvil, assembled by skilled craftsmen
The finished iron receives ArtFactory’s signature heat-infused hand-applied patina, creating a rich living surface that will age beautifully over time.
This is not fabricated metal. This is architectural sculpture hand forged in iron.
A Gate Worthy of Great Estates
For centuries, the entrances to great estates and castles have reflected the character and heritage of the land beyond them.
. . . The Heroic Elk Gate continues that tradition.
Whether placed at a western ranch, mountain retreat, private estate, or luxury lodge, the gate becomes the defining landmark of the property itself.
Because some gates simply open. But the Heroic Elk Gate announces something greater:
- A place of strength
- A place of heritage
- A place built to endure
- A Tradition of Craftsmanship
Since its founding, ArtFactory.com has built its reputation on a simple belief: Great craftsmanship must stand on its own.
Master Builder, H.J. Nick has never relied on celebrity promotion to define the value of his work. The artistry and engineering of each piece must speak for itself.
Since 1913, many heads of state, notable figures, and distinguished clients have acquired ArtFactory works. However, the company has never built its reputation on publicizing those relationships. The work itself must always come first.
One example of this philosophy is the “Freedom’s Not Free” table, created by H.J. Nick as a tribute to the sacrifices made to preserve American liberty.
The piece has been gifted by H.J. Nick and ArtFactory.com to President Donald J. Trump and is currently awaiting acceptance for potential use within the White House.
Respecting the Foundry Tradition
Within the world of monumental bronze sculpture, it has long been the tradition of major foundries to document the historical placement of important works.
For that reason, references to notable collections appear only within the bronze sculpture section associated with the Michelangelo Foundry and the Ghiglieri legacy.
Outside of this tradition, the philosophy of ArtFactory and Master Builder, H.J. Nick remains simple:
The work must stand on its own.
