This solid wood door was hand carved at the request of the direct descendants of Crazy Horse for their home. Crazy Horse was a warrior and leader of the Lakota Sioux during the American-Indian Wars. He fought to preserve his people's way of life and to keep them free of the reservations. Born sometime between 1840 and 1845, Crazy Horse grew up in the area of the Black Hills in South Dakota. In 1876, he was involved in the Battle of the Little Bighorn, where General Custer met his fate. He died in 1877 after being stabbed by a bayonet at Camp Robinson.

The Crazy Horse Memorial in the Black Hills of South Dakota, which is still under construction, was the inspiration for this custom made wood door that showcases the native American warrior and howling wolf carved detail with iron door handle that resembles a deer antler. When the memorial is complete, it will be the world's largest sculpture. The location of the monument in the Black Hills is just 8 miles from Mount Rushmore. Henry Standing Bear, a member of the Oglala Lakota tribe, requested the piece and he commissioned Korczak Ziolkowski, a Polish sculptor who worked on Mount Rushmore, to work on it. Korczak worked on the sculpture from 1947 until his death in 1982. His wife took over the work along with seven of their ten children after he died, and the work continues today, funded by the public.
