Exterior Custom Stained Glass Entry Double Doors to Add Beauty and Intrigue
Stained glass can be found in use as far back as ancient Egypt, and one of the oldest window examples was found at St. Paul's Monastery in Jarrow, England, dated around 686 AD. Stained glass gained popularity during the Gothic period when it was used to create breathtaking murals for monumental cathedrals. The scenes depicted varied in shape and size with circles and lunettes (half-circles, or crescents, from the French word for moon, 'lune') being among the most used.
One of the most famous Cathedrals using radial (circular) design is the Reims Cathedral in France. Finished in 1291, it was the location for 25 coronations of the kings of France from 1223 to 1825. The large rose window towers above onlookers and is so finely crafted that it survived intact for more than 725 years.
