Babe Ruth Custom Door Pull: Baseball With Facsimile Signature
Nothing quite says America like baseball, and nobody was bigger in the golden age of baseball then The Great Bambino himself. If you are a die hard Yankees fan, or just a fan of the game, the Babe Ruth Custom Door Pull is ideal for any baseball fan's man cave door. This door pull is also available with any other player of your choice's facsimile signature across the sweet spot of the ball. Most importantly, the signature is done with our heat applied, iron oxide patina process. This process applies the patina at over 1000 degrees to bond with the metal. What this means is, this will never fade like a sharpie or ball point pen.
The Babe Ruth Custom Door pull, like all of our custom door pulls, is hand forged from solid wrought iron by master blacksmiths. As seen, the door pull measures 5 3/4" inches in diameter and is 3" inches deep. In other words, this door pull is solid, heavy, and built to last. (All custom sizes are available.) As mentioned above, the coloration is applied via our fine art, hand applied patina process. As always, the Babe Ruth Custom Door Pull is hand crafted to fine are quality under the supervision of world renowned artist and designer H.J. Nick.
The Legendary Babe Ruth
While Babe Ruth is best know for his prodigious home run totals, when he broke onto the scene in 1914, his career actually began as a pitcher. Ruth was no slouch as pitcher either, posting a 94-46 record, with an ERA of just 2.28 while mostly pitching the first 5 years of his career. In fact, it's not a stretch to think that he would have made the hall of fame as a pitcher, even if he had never hit a home run in his life.
By 1918 Ruth had shown enough promise as a hitter that the Red Sox actually began splitting him between pitching and the outfield. This was also a season where he set the all-time home run record with 11, while also starting 19 games as a pitcher. In 1919 he blew that record away, hitting 29 home runs, while still starting 15 games as a pitcher. In 1920, he was famously (or infamously depending on what side you are on) traded to the New York Yankees. The Yankees moved him to the outfield full time and he would hit a whopping 54 home runs that year.
Ruth would go on to finish his career with 714 home runs, a batting average of over .340, and well over 2000 rbi's. Although modern stats didn't exist in his day, the modern stat WAR (Wins Above Replacement) suggests that Ruth was worth over 182 wins to his teams (or more than an entire season worth of games) over the course of his career. Considering that players with a WAR of around 50 usually garner at least some consideration for the hall of fame, this is a truly impressive stat.
