4-Inch Solid Wood Masterpieces — Built to Last Forever
Each of these monumental entrance doors is hand-carved from a single 4-inch-thick slab of naturally air-cured solid timber — a process that takes many years from harvest to carving. Only through patient, natural curing can wood achieve the density and resonance required for multi-level, high-relief carving, a technique impossible to reproduce in veneer or composite materials.
From the moment the tree is cut, the journey begins: years of open-air drying, followed by months of shaping, carving, and finishing by ArtFactory’s master builders and fine art carvers. The result is an heirloom door of unmatched depth, dimension, and permanence — a functional sculpture built to endure for centuries.
The 23-Stage Finishing Process
After carving, each door undergoes our proprietary 23-stage fuming, brushing, and hand-rubbing process, developed by H.J. Nick to recreate the warmth and depth of centuries-old finishes.
- The air-cured wood is first fumed, gently oxidizing the natural tannins within.
- It is then hand-brushed, burnished, and polished to reveal the wood’s organic figure.
- Over twenty proceses of oils, sealers, and waxes are hand-rubbed and cured in succession, producing a finish that penetrates deep into the wood fibers.
This is not a surface coating — it’s a living patina that matures gracefully over time, growing richer with age. And only requires oil from time to time.
