Solid Wood Door Jambs

Jamb Depth Explained

The jamb depth is the thickness of the door jamb. Like a cube, a door is a 3 dimensional shape that will have a different measurement for each dimension. Every door will have an X (Height)/ Y (Width) /and Z (Depth) measurement. The jamb depth will be the z dimension dimension to measure for.

This is essentially to take into consideration when measuring your entrance opening, as the jam depth must be at least 1 5/8" (inches) thicker than the door. For example, if your door is 3" (inches) thick, the minimum jamb depth we recommend is 4 5/8" (inches).

Another way to visualize the jamb depth is, that it is the distance from the outside of the wall, to the inside of the wall.
