PYX doors PYX1400
Inspired by History—Built for Eternity
The Pyx Chamber at Westminster Abbey holds a captivating history within its ancient walls, safeguarded by two monumental oak doors dating back to the early 14th century.
These impressive doors weren’t simply decorative—they were a critical response to the infamous 1303 robbery of the Royal Treasury, which was housed securely within the Pyx Chamber at the time.
In the aftermath of this dramatic event, robust and secure doors became essential, commissioned directly by the Crown and masterfully crafted by artisans whose legacy endures through their unparalleled craftsmanship.
It’s not just a door—it’s an heirloom of living history, custom-built to stand the test of time.

Description
Secrets of the Pyx Chamber – A Fortress of Royal Treasure
Hidden beneath the towering splendor of Westminster Abbey lies one of the most fascinating strongholds of medieval England: the Pyx Chamber. Built shortly after the Norman Conquest, this ancient vault is one of the Abbey’s oldest surviving rooms—and one of the best examples of true fortress engineering from the Middle Ages.
Originally part of a monk’s dormitory undercroft, the Pyx Chamber became a royal strong-room, used to protect the king’s valuables, including gold and silver coinage stored in special boxes known as pyx. These coins were tested annually in the legendary Trial of the Pyx, a tradition that dates back to the 13th century and still continues today.

Chapter House and Pyx Chamber
Built to Defend. Built to Last.
Thick stone walls. Double fortified doors. Hand-forged iron locks and bars. The Pyx Chamber was designed with a single mission: absolute protection. These centuries-old construction techniques are not just fascinating history—they're a blueprint we still use today at ArtFactory.com.
