Historical Origin And Design Inspiration
The Castle of Rumbeke, in West-Vlaanderen, is one of the oldest Renaissance castles of Belgium. Although most of the building was built during the Renaissance period, it became slightly classicistic after its renovation during the 18th century. During those renovations, the adjacent forest, the Sterrebos or the Star Forest, was added. The forest was modeled after the Prater park in Vienna. According to legend, Baldwin Iron Arm, Count of Flanders, kidnapped Judith, the daughter of Charles the Bald in 862 in Senlis and brought her to the fortress that used to be at the very location of where the castle stands now. With the intervention of the Pope, the two lovers married in Auxerre, which then resulted in the creation of the County of Flanders.
For centuries, the castle was owned by the counts of Thiennes and Limburg Stirum. The castle of Rumbeke suffered several damages during the invasion of Flanders by French king Louis XIV, as well as during the French Revolution and both world wars more than a century later. In fact, during World War I, it was taken over by the Germans and became for a short period of time, the home of the infamous baron Manfred von Richthofen, better known as the Red Baron, who was credited with shooting down 80 enemy aircraft in his brightly painted red airplane.
The castle can be seen in the movie ‘That Lucky Touch’, a comedy which was partially shot in Rumbeke in 1975, starring Roger Moore and Shelley Winters.

Details As Shown Hand Forged Oak Leaves Color: P-500 Patina Black & Varied Patinas- Solid Iron – 17″W X 10″D X 27″T. Features an elegantly curved lantern of hand forged steel , Each leaf and acorn is hand made individually by the hands of our master blacksmiths using a hot forge, hammer and anvil (not casted copies). Each leaf and acorn is highly detailed and patina finished and truly one of a kind. Fitted with hand blown glass, patina finish. UL listed. This is a extraordinary fine art that will last forever and stand the test of time.
Main Steel Structure: Hand forged, hammer struck to shape using a variety of solid steel materials. Main wire traces very from 1/4″ to 3/4″ heavy wall structural steel depending on the quantity of luminaries. For Chandeliers, the Main wire hide cap and mount is hand forged steel with chain through that allows for 900 pound test chain to mount directly to your structural beam. The wire hide is designed to mount to any standard electrical light receptacle includes two decorative mounting screws. This type of cap also allows for the use of a (customer supplied) chandelier remote winch that allows you to remotely raise and lower your chandelier for service and maintenance. All wall mount sconces and post mount lights will mount to any standard electrical receptacle.
Light Sockets: You may request standard medium base sockets or candelabra sockets for most applications. Ask your representative for details. These socket sizes allow for a wide variety of long life, energy efficient bulbs.
